Twittering with the NASCAR Nation

During the Gatorade Duals on Thursday, the truck race Friday night, and today’s Nationwide Race, I was following and twittering with other NASCAR fans (both away and in Daytona at the race itself), journalists, and even a few representatives from some of the NASCAR sponsors. One of them , @matthumphreycar with the Orlando Sentinel posted about it in his NASCAR blog:  Twitter helps NASCAR fans keep pace with favorites.

As I mentioned in my other post, Latest NASCAR tweets added to NASCAR page, there are a number of ways to follow the conversation using the search features in some of the Twitter clients, such as TweetDeck, or websites such as this NASCAR Twitter group, Twitter’s own search siteTweetGrid, or my own NASCAR page; although, I am still working out bugs as I uncover them. Following is a brief snapshot of the conversation:

I’ll do it again tomorrow during the Daytona 500. It will be interesting for sure. I wonder how many will use Twitter during those periods of, uhm, lesser excitement during some of the longer races? Go Dale Jr.!!! :)

Latest NASCAR tweets added to NASCAR page.

NASCAR LogoIn addition to changing Tony Stewart’s graphics to reflect his new car number of 14 and sponsor, Office Depot, I have added a latest NASCAR tweets section to my NASCAR page using a PHP RSS parsing script I wrote. I did this more to just see if I could and educate myself more in working with Twitter’s RSS feeds. It’s the RSS feed version of this Twitter search which anyone can just view directly. There are also a few sites such as this NASCAR Twitter group site that follows NASCAR tweets. Even so, why not try something myself where I have more control? :)

Currently, I’ve put the tweet section within an IFrame. At the moment you have to manually refresh the list to grab new ones. I kept going back and forth between manual refreshing and automatic refreshing. I may add a form that will let you specify the refresh rate. What’s funny is that getting the RSS parsing working didn’t take that long. Getting the output to look how I wanted with some consistency between IE and Firefox took as long or longer (CSS stuff) .

Since there is no 2009 driver standings available yet, I will have to wait until after the Daytona 500 and NASCAR creates a 2009 standings page to change mine. I have some other ideas for specific races as well, such as a specific page for each race with race results and a video playlist specific to that race. Another year of NASCAR has started. Woot! Stay tuned! :)

300 Added to DVD movie collection, and other updates.

I have added the 300 2-Disc Special Edition Widescreen to my DVD movie collection. It’s an awesome movie! I have also added a NASCAR upcoming race javascript widget thingamabob to both the blog on the right side and to my NASCAR page.  Actually it’s been there for awhile now. I have also temporarily disabled additions to my guestbook and renamed the associated pages and scripts to see if I can get my guestbook off whatever list it must be on. Due the wide range of IP addresses these comment spam bots are coming from, many are probably people’s infected PCs or something.

Oh, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the bridge collapse in Minnesota.

Happy 4th of July! (and some website updates to mention)

Happy Fourth of July!First, let me wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July!! Yes.. the national day to blow stuff up!  :)

Website Changes
OK, within the past few days I have changed some of my webpages in addition to my NASCAR page.  I created a YouTube account and have made a few playlists. One of them is on the NASCAR page and another is a music video playlist on my Entertainment page. I have made some other playlists as well and I may place them elsewhere on the site. Depending on how many music videos I add, I may break the playlists down into Genres. Oh yeah, I have also added a NASCAR Nextel Cup headlines section to my NASCAR page as well.

Blog Changes
I have also made some modifications to my blog, which I am still playing around with.  If you are reading this at my blog site then you’ll notice on the right side of the main page that I have added a Google Reader Shared items (yeah I have a Google Reader account), NASCAR, and CNN news-feed widgets.

All for now, and, once again, everyone have a Happy and safe Fourth of July!

NASCAR crashes compilation video added to NASCAR page.

Actually, this was a few days ago.  Found a 10 minute video of NASCAR stock car crashes on YouTube and decided to embed it on my NASCAR page. :) While I was at it, did some re-arrangement of the content and added some quick page links at the top.  If you want to see the video you’ll have to go to my NASCAR page.. muhahaha!!!

Follow-up (7/3/2007): I’ve made a YouTube Playlist of NASCAR crashes and have placed that on the page instead.  As time goes on and I find other cool ones I’ll add them to the list.  :)   I’m going to go ahead and keep the post with the same date.  I’m actually typing this on July 3rd.
