Getting Audio To Work When Streaming Netflix Movies With Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-ray Player

Update: January 10, 2020: Note: As of December 1, 2019, Netflix will no longer work on Samsung’s Blu-ray players.

This is mentioned in other places on the internet but thought I would add this here as well. When attempting to stream Netflix movies with my Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-ray Player, I would hear no audio with any movie title, including the Heroes Season 1, Episode 1 that they like to use for troubleshooting purposes for some reason. For reference I am using the latest firmware as of February 7, 2011 (version: BSP-C6500WWB-1020.1 ) with an optical digital cable connection to my Denon AVR-3806 A/V Receiver.

Following advice I found on the net, my current workaround/solution:

Before going into the Netflix application, go into the Pandora radio application and listen to any radio station/channel first. Then, exit Pandora and go into Netflix to watch whatever and the audio will work. I have no idea why it works but it does. It’s either a bug in the player’s firmware or a bug with the Netflix application the player uses. Before you can use Pandora you will need to setup an account with them and then configure the player to use it. The instructions for all this are covered in the manual and Pandora’s site. Using the basic Pandora service is free so no need to worry about any costs associated with it.

Hopefully this will help anyone that runs into a similar issue. 🙂

I can confirm that setting the Surround Rear speakers in the Speaker Settings to None does allow me to have audio without the need to do anything prior to playing a Netflix movie. I do have a 5.1 speaker configuration with an optical digital connection, so making this should have no other impact. Good catch.

Thought I would add to this that when I play a DVD and then go to play a Netflix movie, I get no audio. What I do in this situation is to turn the player off and on and then play the Netflix movie which now has audio. This also causes the player to revert back to 1920 x 1080i (max for component video) instead of 720×480 for the DVD movie it was playing. Hope this helps some others out there.

I have found the optical out to be unpredictable. I also have mine connected thru the 7.1 analog direct RCA jacks and they always seem to work, even when the optical channel won’t.

I can’t believe this worked! I didn’t have this problem before running my Samsung player through a new pioneer receiver. Strange, but it works!

This would only work if the speakers had an RCA input with their own amplifier built-in. Typically, RCA outputs are a line-level audio output which require going through an amplifier of some kind which the speakers are then connected to.

Go into crackle if you have the app on your bd player and watch a clip. Go back to netflix and the sound should be back. Works like pandora method. Thanks.

I have video but low or no audio when streaming NETFLIX on my Samsung DVD Smarthub.
Netflix has a good troubleshoot page for this problem. I solved my problem before I found the page but one of their solutions is switching the HDMI cable end to end or replacing the HDMI cable. Replacing the HDMI cable worked for me.

Also I resolved my problem with some titles not loading or pausing while playing by going online to my NETFLIX account and reducing the video quality to intermediate quality.
